Reflective Water and Sun Flare

I've decided to add some special effects to the game.

1st Effect: Reflective Water

This is my new favorite effect! The entire world is reflected in the water. The screenshot doesn't do it justice, so I may post a video of it in the coming days.

2nd Effect: Sun Flare

Computer games and graphics tend to mimic the world as seen through a camera. That means re-creating even the negative effects of filming, such as lens flares.

Personally, I think it looks awesome, and again, this screenshot doesn't do it justice. (so stay tuned for a video)!

*note: All effects can be toggled in the options menu.

More Screenshots!

I'll admit, I haven't been posting much lately, but don't let that worry you -- I've still been working hard on Canine Combat.

In fact, I've made some major changes to the game. In this post, I will talk about 2 of them.

First Change: New Art Style

I decided the game needed more detail... So take a look at the old and new enemy dog below.

I've also updated the player model.

Second Change: The HUD (head's up display)
To be fair, this isn't really a *change* but just a new feature.

So, this is my experimental HUD. Basically, the circle thing in the upper left corner is the player's mini-map. The green dots on the map represent friendly teammates, the red dots are enemies, and the yellow dots are props (like tree's, rocks, houses, etc...)

In the upper right corner is a picture of the player and the number of lives the player has left. The player has 3 lives left in this screenshot.

I debated for a while whether to go with a quicksave system or an extra life system. I decided that using extra lives would maintain the games arcade-y feel.

*note: The read arrow in the center of the mini-map is the player.

Again, I'd like to apologize for not blogging recently. I'll have some new posts in the coming days. Since you've all been so patient, I've got one more scenic screenshot to share.
