Spam Bots

We've had some fun with spam bots over the last few days. Thankfully, I've installed a mod which should keep them busy for a while.

Name the Game Contest

If you can come up with a title for next game, your name will be added to the credits.

About:
The game is a cartoony themed racing game. The cars you will be driving will be spin-offs of actual vehicles as well as just plain goofy looking cars.

In terms of theme and style, this game could be compared to Mario Kart.

Prize:
If we choose your title for the game, your name will be added to the credits.

Where do I submit my entry:
Here

Deadline:
June 12

Back to work!

Memorial Day weekend is over, that means it's back to work!

Today, I'd like to take a look at the way the gui works for our games. A gui (graphical user interface) is one of those subtle things that people overlook. Usually, the only time people notice the gui, is when it's of poor quality. Fortunately, that's not the case with our gui ;)

label
name="title.tga" x="5" y="0" w="512" h="256"

button
name="start.tga" func="restart" x="40" y="40" w="256" h="64"

button
name="scores.tga" func="goto scores" x="38" y="60" w="256" h="64"

button
name="options.tga" func="goto options" x="37" y="80" w="256" h="64"

button
name="quit.tga" func="cmd quit" x="42" y="100" w="256" h="64"

Our gui is setup using xml scripts. The above script is used for the main menu. As of Space Smashout, the gui supports 6 different widgets. A widget is like a button or slider. The widgets our gui supports are buttons, labels, check boxes, comb boxes, sliders, and text fields. Many more widgets will be added for our next game!

Race Track Editor

This is an early look at the race track editor. There's no gui for it yet. Right now, I'm just using the arrow keys to move the yellow maker on the gird. I then use the 1-6 keys to select different tiles and the R key to rotate them.

Track Editor

Our race track editor is underway. We've decided not to model the entire track in a modeling program, but rather model the pieces and snap them together with an in-game editor.

JemQuest Video

I realize some people can't play JemQuest, because not everyone has a Mac. I decided to post a video of it, so you can see what it's about.

The video doesn't have sound (sorry).

Forum Updates

I've been making some changes to the forum. I'm sorry if you've had trouble accessing it today. I will notify ahead of time before any further changes are made.

Website Updates

The website has been updated!

Now, to the right of this blog, you can find links to previous posts. In the games section, you will find we posted system requirements and screenshots. The forum now is displayed inside the gribble games website, in other words, it doesn't re-direct you too a new page!

As you might have noticed, the site has ads on it now. Yes yes, I know people find them annoying, but if we want to keep our products free, then we need to supplement our revenue from somewhere else.

Racing Game Coming Soon!

Gribble Games has started work on a 3d racing game. Although it's still early in development, here is a screenshot of the model loader in action!
